Harstine Island Women’s Club November 3, 2016
The meeting was called to order by our President, Michelle Mott at 12:30pm
Introduction of Guests:
Vice President, Corina Birgh introduced our guest, Bill Baarsma. He was a former mayor of Tacoma among other offices he has held. He presented a slide show entitled, City of Destiny, Tacoma. He gave a very engaging presentation that lasted about an hour.
Michelle then thanked our hostesses, Mary Rogers, Kathy Bykerk & Carolyn Allinson. She also welcomed new members, Lailani Robinson, Mona Greely & Evelyn Freeman.
The minutes were approved as written. Treasurers Report:
Kasey Benson presented the 2016-2017 Budget & Income Statement. A motion was made and seconded to accept the 2016-2017 budget. A vote approved the budget unanimously.
It was mentioned that a rundown of the Chase account should be done by December or January.
The treasurers report for October was approved as presented.
The new directories were available. Thank you to Marilyn Laubach for putting those together.
Linda Vanlandingham passed around a request sheet for donations of food items for the Holiday House. Items may be dropped off Friday, November 25th at noon or Saturday, November 26th at 7am. She will also pick up items if you can’t get them to the clubhouse.
Judy Schaaf reported we have a full house of vendors but requested help with various jobs which were fulfilled.
A motion was made and seconded to donate $2000.00 to the HICC for the purchase of a new dishwasher/sterilizer. A written ballot was passed out and the motion passed 39 to 2.
Michelle announced that the Christmas Luncheon will be held in the hall, on December 1st. She requested that members A-K bring hors d’ oeuvres and L-P bring desserts. She also requested
extra women to help decorate the hall on Monday, November 28th at 11am. She had enough volunteers.
Kasey Benson presented an idea of a flour sack towel with a print of the island on it to be sold as a fundraiser. The HIWC voted the idea down.
Kathy Earl announced she will be hosting Craft Day on January 21st. Some of the classes are An unusual pizza cooking class, fish printing, origami made from old calendars and needle felting.
Sewing will be held at the home of Judy Schaaf at 10am on November 15th
There will be no Thanksgiving Dinner at the community club unless a group volunteers to do it.
